My laundry was on the line, flapping in the breeze. I had an hour left of desk-work and another hour to get a shower before leaving for another appointment. The poison ivy rash on my legs, my arms, my abdomen, my throat, my ears (need I go on?) was finally beginning to dry up and I was at the molting-lizard-with-a-tan stage of the healing process. I showered, scrubbed my scales, dressed and went out to get my clothes off the line. The warm breeze and sunshine had done a magnificent job and everything was dry. Even that one tee shirt that had fallen from the line, hanger and all. I picked it up. It looked squeaky clean. Not even a grass clipping was stuck to it. Should be okay to go in the closet with the others, right? Later in the evening, it was that shirt I pulled out to sleep in. It’s one of my favorites because it's super soft and feels like wearing a cotton ball. I was snoozing away until a little after midnight, when I woke up itching on my abdomen. I reached for the anti-itch and drying lotion I’d been using to kill off the ivy rash and applied a fresh coat under my shirt. I got immediate relief that lasted for several hours. Next morning I checked and sure enough, I had bumps everywhere, but not the tiny ones that come with poison ivy reaction. These were spots and welts. Bites. Seems an entire battalion of chiggers had taken up residence in my tee shirt and they spent the night attacking me. Between the poison ivy, chiggers, buffalo gnats, mosquitos and horseflies I nearly decided to check summer off of Favorite Seasons list. Too good to give up on!The rivers land is beautiful year-round and in summer she’s bursting with color. The lawn smells of sun-warmed cilantro. The village mile is scented with honeysuckle and mint. My skin gets darker and my hair gets lighter. The days last late into evening and the night air sparkles with lightning bugs. Fresh bales are spotting some fields while others are sprouting green things. Before we know it, yellow buds will be turning into beautiful baby melons. Below is just a small serving of some fav scenery I love to soak up when putting in village miles during a workout, or riding through the river bottoms. Arm yourself. Fight back. Have fun.In the war on summer fun-crushers, I’ve got a small list of easy-to-obtain remedies you may find helpful when combating plant reactions and bug bites.
During the last two weeks, I’ve been keeping a tube of Ivarest and a travel-size bottle of antibacterial gel in my backpack every time I go out. At night, they’re on my nightstand. During the day, they’re nearby or on my desk. This little collection makes for fast, inexpensive and effective therapy that’s working well for me and others. If you’re fighting the same sort of nuisances maybe you’ll find them of use for yourself, too. My friend T.J. (mother of six) told me Ivarest was her topical lotion of choice to use on her children when they were little, so it gets a thumbs up from both kids and grownups. ShoutOutsFinish Line!Hope you’ve found today’s information helpful. Knowledge is power and every little bit gained is generally in our favor.
That’s it for this one! God bless you! Thanks for the tips! Thanks for the reading, the comments and the emails! I pray your summer season moves forward in a safe and enjoyable fashion and hope to see you back again next week. femmeflashpoint
