Gifting Empty Bags

For this year's birthday, one of my fav gifts was an empty bag.

It wasn’t a gag gift, and it wasn’t just an empty bag. It was a very cool, empty bag that I immediately loved, and have since kept it with me nearly all the time when I'm away from home.

Why do I pack it around everywhere? So I don’t have to get (or at least use fewer) plastic bags when I go to a shop, or to carry things that I don't want to put in my backpack.

Other than its great functionality, it’s total eye candy. When I saw its exterior was designed with library books and shelves, it was love at first sight.

My sister, Nee (of On Story Street--who’s also a writer and loves books) is excellent at finding these sorts of items for gifting. It’s another example of an easy and effective way to support the independent business community. She found this bag at our favorite, local organic grocer, Elbert’s Natural Food Market in Evansville, IN. It was one of several items she included in my birthday package, and is one I’ll likely get years of use from. ​

​Sadly, no shout-out due to...

When researching the company who made my bag, of course, I went to their website. I was surprised and disappointed to discover their site was laced with foul language. It was a total turn-off for me and therefore I'm not inclined to share the site's name and site address here on flashPress. 

If I find another bag, with similar aspects made by an independent business that doesn't include four-letter-fouls on their website, I’ll be happy to highlight them here. For now, I don’t know of any, but if you do, and you’ve personally tried their bags, pass me their contact info and I’ll be thrilled to check them out and feature their products in a flashPress edition.

The eco-friendly factor

Below is a video via Dr. Tarrin Lupo’s YouTube channel that includes a brief section regarding the toxicity of disposable plastic bags. The entire video is interesting, fun and short. The section on plastic bag toxicity had info that was disturbing considering how many of us use and save disposable plastic store bags in big quantities.
