Despite the rain and temp drop, they showed up anyway. It wasn't a record attendance at this Spring's artisan event in New Harmony, but, there were loads more folks attending than I expected. I'd been in town the evening before, joining up with some friends in the village park, where we meet for a moonlight jog nearly every night of the week. The weather was turning then, but, the artisans and vendors were already arriving, setting up their tents and booths. When I came back on Saturday I noticed several of them had moved their wares indoors, and I admit that I was happy to not have to go from tent to tent doing spot interviews and taking pics in the rain. It was only rain. There was no flashing in the sky, or electric-dancing overhead, but ... just in case. Indoors was good. I got scads of info and scads of photos to go with it. In fact, I came home and realized I had well over 300 pics, and it's taken me DAYS to finish culling and editing them. And so, since I have tons of cool stuff to show you, I won't detain you with words, but, will instead regale you with these folks and their unique art pieces. There is a link embedded in the photos of business cards, of the artists who have websites. Clicking on the cards will open a new page for you, so you can easily navigate to their websites. Nick and Jessica Mason of Blue Collar Pottery, Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Mike and Patsy Hancock, of Hancock's Wood Crafts, Providence, Kentucky. Brenna O'Connor, of Evansville, Indiana. Cameron J. Smith of Do U Glass Hot Shop, Murphysboro, Illinois. Kelly Springer of Lillypistol Leather in Southern Indiana. Matthew Urban of Furnace Urbini, Bloomington, Illinois. Stephanie Spann of New Harmony Soap, New Harmony, Indiana. I was so excited to see this stand. Finally, the midwest has discovered KETTLE CORN! (They spell it wrong, but, it's cooked the same!) Donnakins Jewelry from Santa Clause, Indiana. Dr. David Powell (R), and his good friend, Mr. Breman Groves (L). Dr. Powell is a local physician, as well as owner and educator at David Powell Glass Art. This is only a small overview of some of the participating artists at the event. Several of them will be featured in follow-up articles over the next few weeks.
Believe it or not, I was stricken with a rare onset of shyness when it came to approaching the artists, and asking them about their crafts. I can't remember that ever happening before, but, it did this time, and I wasn't happy about it. I mean, can you imagine? Me? Shy? I know! It amazed me too!`Thankfully, after a few moments with most of them, it diminished, and I was able to learn some things about their trade, and set up some follow-up interview plans. I'll do better next time. To those artists participating in the event that I didn't have time to get around to, my apologies. I hope to catch you at the next fair and make up for it! That's it for this one! God bless you, thank you for the read, and please don't forget to thank a veteran at your next opportunity! femmeflashpoint
