I've been a Beth Perry fan for several years. A witty journalist, novelist and playwright, Beth is one of those talented, multi-genre writers that can produce content on nearly any subject, even a bland one, and make an interesting story out of it. A while back, I was excited to hear Beth had put together a collection of spooky tales for young and young-at-heart readers in Ebook format, available on amazon.com. I got a copy, read it and loved it! Seems her children did too, because they pressed her to have the book made available in hard copy, so she did. It's just in time for the autumn weather when folks engage in the annual tradition of spooky stories to go with the turning leaves, early sunsets and chilly weather. Nine for the Nightlight is extra special significance because of the origins of the stories. Beth is a Southern girl from Appalachia, where many traditions have great longevity. The nine stories in the book are a collection of ones she grew up hearing herself. Seems in her neighborhood, the kids gathered ‘round, under a streetlamp for their storytelling and listening adventures. It reminded me so much of my own growing up years, camping with friends and cousins, or even building a fire in our own yard at home in Pumpkin Run. It was a similar setting, the older kids telling the younger ones the same stories they’d heard when they were wee listeners themselves. The Boo! factor rated heavily in them and the louder the squeals and shrieks of the listeners, the happier the storyteller was. It was an unofficial rite of passage for everyone. You were either old enough to hear the stories or old enough to tell them. Beth has creatively maintained the bones of the stories (pun intended) while tweaking them to be fresh and easily understood by current-era young readers. A Weeblyhood neighborIn refreshing my memory on the book and gathering current links, I was thrilled to find Beth's website is in the Weeblyhood. Kinda cool knowing she's a cyber-neighbor to me and several other pro bloggers whose work I enjoy, that also use Weebly as their domain host. I knew about her plans to use a short excerpt from my initial review on the book being included on the new hard copy's back cover. I got a happy surprise, though, to find it also included on the website page, featured for you below. Two ways to enjoy itNine for the Nightlight makes a great gift and thankfully is available in Ebook format or hardcopy, to easily accommodate readers' preferences. Click here to check out the Ebook. Or, click here, for the hardcopy. Both are easily affordable and a worthwhile investment. My thanks to you ahead of time for your interaction and support of the works of indie authors. ShoutOutsAnd bringing up the rear in this week's ShoutOuts, the new YouTube channel trailer for On Story Street and flashPress is below for you. Hope you like it and will keep in mind that videography is a new learning ground for me. The wrap!By the way, while I've been prepping this, Alicia is spending the night in the hospital and scheduled for surgery Tuesday morning, 10.25.2016. We just enjoyed a wonderful weekend, spending Saturday with good friends, cycling the mountain bike trails at Harmonie State Park. Sunday evening, she developed acute abdominal pain and nausea due to gallstones and acute gallbladder inflammation.
After a miserable day and night, she's finally been sedated and is sleeping soundly tonight, getting some rest before tomorrow's surgery. We covet your prayers for a speedy recovery. That's it for this one. God bless you, thanks for the read and see you next week. femmeflashpoint
