Here's a new freebie tool for you that took mere moments to make me a fan. There's a high probability it'll do the same for you! It's called Slack and I wanna show you why I’m lovin’ it! It’s free. It plays enthusiastically with Windows, Android, Linux and i-Everything. Yup--there’s more! I collaborate with multiple individuals and groups in a variety of capacities. With all the communication needed for folks to work together, yet remotely, there are bazillions of places to leave messages, share documents, note changes, request assistance, assign a task, so on and so on and so on. (Eeek!) The more the merrier doesn’t really work in this sort of scenario. A ton of places to hope to glean info from without missing anything is a recipe for a hot mess. Not if you use Slack... Here are some realistic scenarios that could easily be a consistent type of daily, even hourly, workday event for me. They might apply to you in similar fashion. Team effortsI serve as webmaster for marcoujor's musings. I know that unless something’s gone haywire, I'm gonna have a blog draft from the site’s owner, Maria Jordan, several days ahead of her publishing schedule (at least it works that way for most editions). Another writer who serves as editor for Maria’s post content is Vicki Warner of WarnerWords. Both women have demanding schedules. Fast, easy and foolproof communication is essential to to keeping their operations running smoothly. Add to this, Maria and I both serve as editors for Vicki, who often has at least two or more book drafts for us to work with. As Vicki writes her chapters, I edit the content first, followed by Maria. We leave notes for each other when needed within the documents themselves and can even chat inside each doc. But, for fast relaying of info to catch each other up, we have the option of leaving a short update in Slack. From there, we can see what’s been done and what needs to happen next, all in one spot, for all the books, even with each having their own project channel. Bouncing back to marcoujor’s musings, Maria can leave a message in the mmusings channel letting us know she’s written her post and it’s ready for edit. Slack will notify Vicki and me. We we've completed our parts, we can leave a reply in the same area where Mar wrote her initial alert. We can each see what’s going on with all of our projects individually, yet all in the same place where they’re easy to spot. I’ve only used two of my colleagues in these scenarios. There are many other friends and colleagues I work with and not all are writers, but in a variety of other businesses, yet Slack can be used effectively with any of them. This is way better than an avalanche of emails to keep up with. With Slack I don't have to go searching thru email for overlooked, or accidentally deleted information. Slack also has video, phone and chatroom options for each channel you might want to build for business or other other group uses that want to incorporate project management. I’ve only scraped the surface of what Slack can do for you as a clutter-cutter. I hope you’ll check it out and lemme know how you like it. ShoutOutsThe wrap! Before I go, I wanna extend a big welcome to the new subscribers! I'm so happy you're interested in flashPress content and hope you'll expand your scope to soak up some of the other virtual buskers in the indie biz community.
The ShoutOuts section of each post is a great place to get started. Also, my thanks to the tippers. Pro bloggers and vloggers are always thrilled to earn tips. They're what allow us to earn a living doing what we love. That's it for this one! God bless you and see you next week! femmeflashpoint
