Most days she’s still taken out of the fenced area to graze in the rest of the yard, and when we can manage it during late afternoon or early in the day, she gets taken for walks along the village mile. She’s already gaining some much-needed weight and her sadness over the absence of Little Star and the upset of last winter’s tornado, that hit the farm where she was boarded, has largely diminished. She’s nickering and sometimes jogging about in her little pasture area here, frisky and happy. The household is in habit of checking on her first thing in the morning, literally. Soon as I wake up, I’m having a look out my window to see where she is and what she’s doing. Likewise, as soon as she hears us moving around in the house, or stepping to the back door, she’s quick to look up and give us a nicker in greeting. That alone is some amazing medicine that just makes for a good feeling all the way into our soul. A thing I loved about my time in Fort Worth, Texas is that the nearly magical setting we enjoy here, where I grew up, was mirrored in many properties in Fort Worth. Fort Worth was as close to home as I could get when I lived in the Lone Star State. Fire has a quickly developing fan club of her very own. Villagers, and even friends who live in other areas often come by to visit her. They spend time petting and even grooming her, and sometimes bring along their little ones so they can experience the softness when petting a horse’s nose. One close friend of the family is in habit of finishing off her grooming sessions with Fire by placing a bright pink bow or pony-tail (no pun intended) holder in the mane on her forehead. I can’t help but laugh out loud each time I see that “Auntie Deb” has been here, and left the former lead mare of a large herd, all pretty in pink. For lots of folks, horse scent is enough to lower blood pressure and ease anxiety. I used to tell my sister, a tablet, hot coffee and a comfy chair in a pasture with horses nearby is the perfect atmosphere for writers, painters and photographers. Yesterday, after cleaning up Fire’s area, hauling away manure and old hay to the mulch bin and throwing some fresh hay for her to graze on, Nee took a camp-chair out to the middle of the pen. Nee in her new fair-weather reading spot. She propped her feet on the log she uses for a mounting block, and settled in to get some reading done in the latest faith-laced-thriller by one of our fav Christian authors, Linda J. White. Just click here to read the review I wrote on another of her awesome books, Bloody Point. I’ll have a review of this newer one soon, here on the PRPulse. Fire’s area is still developing, as funds, time and health allow. Nonetheless, her area is serving her and her fans very well and many folks are benefitting physically, mentally and spiritually during their visits with her. We’re grateful for our friends who look after her when we’re away, and for visiting her when they have a bit of free time. She loves the visits, which are playing a big part in her recovery and acclimation to her new home. She looks so different now. Her ribs aren’t sticking out. Her hips aren’t as bony. Her neck, chest and legs are showing some of the beautifully sculptured musculature that she’s been admired for, for decades. For all the good that’s happening with Fire, the good she’s doing for others is just as impressive. Her presence is a blessing in every direction. ShoutOutsThe wrap! That’s it for this one!
God bless you! Thanks for the tips! Thanks for the read and hope you’ll come again for the next Tuesday edition of the Pumpkin Run Pulse.
