In the early 1990s a few close friends and colleagues were awesome enough to recommend books to me. The early to mid-1990s were a tough set of years for my siblings and our elders. I'm pretty sure we spent nearly as much time in the hospital on bedside duty as we did at home or at work. We all endured heavy doses of heartbreak but enjoyed some exceptional blessings as well. In every direction, near and far, we had friends and extended family caring for us and praying for us. Some of the best helps I received during those difficult times were gifts and suggestions of books, and among them two writers stand out as tried and true favorites whose works continue to grow and grace my library. The writers are Frank Peretti and Max Lucado. My first Peretti book was This Present Darkness. My first Lucado book was In the Grip of Grace. Both were game changers. Life changers. Both had content that refreshed my bone-tired mind and bruised soul. Since then, I've read every book Peretti has written. Lucado's stuff I'm still working my way through, but he seems to write triple-time in comparison to Peretti. Doesn't matter. Both are awesome-sauce and Lucado's swift-key ops give me plenty to read while I wait for Peretti to complete his next masterpiece. Well waterWith all the changes and advances (and even a few set-backs) of late, I've been refreshed mentally and spiritually reading Life to the Max by Rev. Lucado. Whomever you are, whatever your situation, this book is packed with good news for you. Its contents are as refreshing as cold, spring-fed well water is to a dry mouth on a hot, dusty day. City folk may not have a clue what I mean by that. The country folk will get it immediately. I can't say there's a favorite part of this book. All of it is a favorite. I even took notes through the whole thing. It felt like I was wading through a field of diamonds and just as I'd find one to keep another would light up in the Sonshine and I'd be compelled to note it for future reference too. I learned about the Society of the Second Mile, and the necessity of second chances (as well as third, fourth, fiftieth...) Life to the Max is brought by Max on Life. He shares jewels that remind and encourage us when it comes to outliving our lives, and that it's possible to live in a fearless (or at least mostly fearless) fashion. I'm still working on that but I'm seeing improvement. If you aren't familiar with it already, plan to be introduced to the cure for the common life and how to live loved. You get all that and believe it or not, it's a SHORT book. Lucado is known for that. Short sentences with big punches that can knock entire mountains right into the sea. The wrap!More good news for you is, Life to the Max is currently free to read on Amazon.com, as well as on Google Play Books. My personal preference is to read e-books on my Google Play reader but for you Kindle-lovers, Amazon has it for you as well. I encourage you to snag a copy for a friend, or at least consider suggesting it, while the free versions last. Your only investment will need to be a couple of clicks and the time it takes to turn the virtual pages (which you can do if you download it to Google Play Books), but the rewards are endless. If you're in the middle of a struggle or challenge that is taxing your spirit, I hope you'll give this book a chance. You only have to live in an angry, jealous and defeated state if you want to. For those who prefer to spend their energies focusing on the brighter aspects of life, this book will be a blessing to you.
