In the short time I've been acquainted with him, Ryan Ginther has displayed an appealing, gentle and unassuming demeanor, highlighted by warm smiles. He attended Wells Elementary School and is still in high school, but will be graduated from Grayville High School in May (2014). He's also prepping for college at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he's enrolled for the 2014 fall semester with his major areas of study being business and music. In the meantime, when Ryan's not busy with school, a good bit of the rest of his time is spent as a pantry chef. He makes awesome salads and sandwiches, and has a propensity for adding artistic flair and pizazz to the desserts he plates up for the guests of The Red Geranium Restaurant at the New Harmony Inn, Resort and Conference Center. When we first met, I asked him a barrage of the usual questions, about where he was from, where he went to school, plans for college, etcetera. I was happy to find some common ground with him, other than being country. We've travelled to some of the same areas and share an interest in culture across the pond. Here's a couple of shots he loaned me, taken during a European tour in 2012. More common ground ...We talked about travel, and food and then discovered we shared another interest, which is music. As it turns out, Ryan is a musician and vocalist and spends as much time as he can, developing his abilities and expertise in both. Not long ago, he completed his first album. It was produced at Mary Anderson Studios in Wadesville, Indiana, which is managed by producer and musician, Jeremiah Galey of the band, Gentlemen and Scholars. "Jeremiah mixed and mastered all the songs on the EP. He did back-up vocals, his brother, Caleb Galey, that's also the same age as me (18), was the percussionist in three of the four tracks. "Aaron Holm, a musician who is also a part of Gentlemen & Scholars, played the strings section in the song Planes. "I played both acoustic and electric guitar on the record, along with the banjo, and sang the lead vocals. It was recorded in December 2013." ~ Ryan Ginther Here's an acoustic, one-take version, of the opening song on his new album that's soon to be released. November Promotions ...Ryan's been at work putting together some promotional shots and although he's prepping for school, he's available to schedule summer performances after high school graduation. He doesn't have a formal website, but in the meantime he can be contacted via his facebook page of www.facebook.com/RyanGintherMusic. Summer plans ...Although he'll still be putting in some hours at The Red Geranium through summer, Ryan says he's hoping to have the opportunity to perform for some gigs until fall semester at college begins. He told me one of the things he'd especially love to do before summer ends, are some street performances. Having enjoyed the performances of multiple street performers (buskers) while across the pond, Ryan says he'd love to get to do the same thing here in the states. It's not a common sight in the rivers' land, however, there's definitely room for it and locals tend to be supportive of young talent and so, tri-state businesses, here's your chance to invest in the future and give a midwest boy a great send off! Thanks for your support!I hope you've enjoyed getting acquainted with Ryan and his music. If you happen to run into him, please take a moment to shake his hand and introduce yourself. He'll be happy to know he's made a new fan.
