Sweet, soft and fluffy homemade cupcakes layered beautifully into a canning jar with decadent whipped icing and other goodies. What’s not to love? Past the awesome product, it’s owned by one of the sweetest gals in the indie biz community, a native of Evansville, IN, Samantha Merideth. So I urge you to get better acquainted with her and her fabulous small-but-flourishing business, The Rustic Cupcake! I met Samantha at the New Harmony Farmers' & Artisans' Market earlier this summer. She had a fetching table display of canning jars full of exotic and enticing layered-deserts. She was warm, friendly, confident and displayed all the right stuff a client enjoys seeing in an indie biz owner. That's one of the great perks of shopping within the indie biz community, getting personally acquainted with the community business owners. Samantha has a stellar personality and is an excellent example of that. Beyond her warmth and personal-professionalism (yes, there is such a thing) her products are total eye candy and taste great too! She's a one-star show, and her passion for her business shows in not only the physical aspect of her products but in the oh-so-cool names she's chosen for them too. The productsYou see? The menu alone is Southern ingenuity at its finest. She totally won me over when I saw Just Bluegrass, Kentucky Pudding and Dirt Road offered as flavors. All y'all Southerners (and Southerners at heart) know what I'm sayin'. Those should be the first three on your shopping list. ☺ Per Samantha... "The names for all of the recipes come from all the things I love about this state (Indiana) and the South. Also, my customers preferences are represented in them too. They let me know what flavors they'd love for me to have which inspires me to make them available. "One of my personal favorites is Kentucky Pudding. It's a white cupcake layered with banana pudding and cookie topping." A small sampling!Have a look at a few examples of Samantha's homemade goodies! Words from an entrepreneur"I love that the community is welcoming to small businesses and those who want to get a business started. I love the feedback, respect and what my customers have to say. "Although this is a business, I can't help but to have a personal connection to it so the feedback, positive or negative, is something I take to heart. I have had some of the best customers in the world! "Small businesses are the key to a healthy community. It makes our town/city unique and we have some really great businesses. "Not many people get a choice to make a living doing something they love. I absolutely love making cupcakes, selling cupcakes, whether it's one or one hundred. I love watching the faces of Rustic Cupcake customers as they enjoy something so unique. "If you're considering being an entrepreneur and starting your own business, take your time and don't force anything. Listen to what the community/customers have to say. They'll let you know what they want in a business. "Also, shop local whenever you can. In our area, we're fortunate to have a really great community of local indie biz owners."
