I've had five migraines since the last piercing. Only five! That alone is cause for celebration. Before the piercings, I was having multiple episodes on a near-weekly basis. There's more good news, too...
Lunar pullThe last several days we've had a big, bright full-to-full-ish moon overhead. The big moon nights are when I'm most susceptible to migraine storms. Up until the daith piercings, they often kept me very sick and in bed for several days. Since having the daith cartilage pierced in both of my ears, I've had a dramatic decrease in migraine pain, frequency and associated side-effects. WoundsThe wound in my left ear took every bit of three months to heal. Once healed, it's not sensitive at all, and when I feel a migraine, sinus or stress headache coming on, I gently tug on the daith-ring in that ear. The right ear has several weeks to go before the wound is healed enough to allow for the ring to be manipulated. It's still weeping at the site. Although there's no bruising, it feels bruised when I clean it, or accidentally bump it, or lay on it. It's healing in near identical fashion as my left ear did and thankfully it hasn't developed any infection. Wound-careInitially, I treated both wounds with saline for the first 24 hours. Afterward, I continued to clean them with saline followed by applying a tea-tree oil blend, using a cotton swab. The oil blend includes tea tree oil, aloe vera, sunflower seed oil, rose hips oil and a few other ingredients. Although I prefer to use straight Young Living Tea Tree Essential Oil, we were out of it and a new supply hadn't yet been ordered. So, I picked up a bottle of the Hollywood brand for just a couple dollars and some change at Walmart. It worked well, although it didn't alleviate the discomfort as well as my preferred Young Living oil. Daith ringsI started with a titanium horse-shoe shaped piece that had a ball on either end. The cost of it was around $25 for the single piece. One of the beads wouldn’t stay on. It continued to come off, and I’d find it in my bedding, or on the floor after a shower where I’m guessing towel drying knocked it off. The last time it came unscrewed, it rolled into my ear canal. I took it to the piercing studio and the owner attempted to repair it with a rubber stop-lock, like the kind used for earring backs. It worked okay until it disintegrated when I had to apply the tea tree oil I used for wound care. I couldn’t get a refund for the ring and wouldn’t wear it, so I encourage you to NOT use a horse-shoe shaped piece if you have the same procedure done. If you like the style, maybe consider getting the basic circle first, to have the piercing done with, and after healing, go for the horse-shoe. From the horse-shoe, I went to a circle ring with a capture bead to close the gap. I like this type because they’re small and the bead (I’d hoped) would be easy to grasp when I needed to tug on the piece. Gentle tugging is part of the implementation of reflexology to help ease the pain of a variety of ailments, including migraine pain. The trouble with the capture/captive bead type is it was so difficult to install, I was never able to get the bead in place. My latest solution arrived today. was alleviated today when an D-shaped titanium rings from Ebay. No beads, just a straight bar through the daith and a curved “D” that sits on the outside. It’s all one piece. I took needle-nosed pliers and widened an opening where the metal is separated, slipped it into my ear, and will have a friend tighten it to close it up enough so it won't come out unless I want it to. They arrived before I’d completed the writing of this post, which was awesome because it allowed me to include a picture of it for you. I can’t remove the hoop in my right ear for about six more weeks. That’s in my favor because if the new D rings aren’t actually titanium, I’ll end up with an itchy, weeping rash-reaction. So far, I’ve not had trouble with any of the daith rings I’ve purchased via Ebay and will provide you with the vendors I’ve shopped with in the next update. Another plus with the Ebay vendors is the prices of the the pieces I’ve ordered have all been less than $10 and included free shipping. I'm relieved the piercing ordeals are behind me and that I’m getting good results from them. Some folks have immediate relief and never suffer another migraine after their first daith piercing. Others continue with migraine pain, and have to get the piercings in both ears to alleviate migraines, which has been the case with me. With the decrease in episodes and symptoms, it’s been well worth it. I’ll give the right ear time to heal and share another update. ShoutOutsThe wrap! That’s it for this one!
God bless you! Thanks for the tips! Thanks for the read and hope you’ll come again for the next Tuesday edition of the Pumpkin Run Pulse.
