Troubled? Ashamed? Running? Think things are impossible to set to rights or maybe to gain some sort of a fresh start? All of these describe Seamus Hanley. Every resource Seamus got his hands on, he managed to mishandle and take for granted. Sometimes it didn't only affect him adversely, the fallout would also wash over everyone who cared for him, or stepped in to lend a hand. Seamus, an immigrant, has seen more land, water, rivers, deserts and mountains that he ever imagined being exposed to while a young man, back in his native Ireland. Since his arrival in the New World, he's crossed oceans, become a mobster, joined the military, fought wars and served in two armies, one the enemy of the other. He's learned some things during his travels, and wondering if mankind is better off without him, but his plans to live as a mountain hermit get derailed after a tragic accident and his acquisition of a simple picture. Nothing's coincidentalAssumptions often lead to wrong conclusions, but Seamus is a rather mysterious fellow, so there are a good many made about him. He shys in certain company. He's often quiet and he's scarred. Some are scars that can be seen--others can be sensed. Just as he's about to give up on the notion of doing whatever he can to nurture and develop some integrity in his life, he begins to realize that something, or someone, much bigger than him might be of a mind to help him. Perhaps his series of unfortunate events are about to turn into something good? The small picture of a woman was the tail end of the catalyst that pushed him out of the mountains and back into civilization. He only has her picture. He's never met her but he's compelled to find her and help her. Between him and his destination there are frozen winter passes to cross, hot sands under a desert sun and Indians. Some will welcome him and others will be willing to die trying to separate his scalp from his skull. Two out of threeIn Golden Splendor is the second book in the Heirs of Ireland series authored by Michael K. Reynolds. His work in these books is beautifully defined, rich in historic truths and enhanced with fictional characters, situations and scenery--a combination that provides his readers with compelling, non-stop adventure from start to finish. If I were to compare his style to another writer, it'd be Dickens. Yup, his maneuvering of plots and characters reminds me of Sir Charles but his work is MUCH easier to read in more modern English as opposed to the hot lingo of Queen Victoria's day, which my blonde-brain has trouble mucking its way through. Nonetheless, Dickens has always been worth it and with Mr. Reynold's work I can enjoy the adventure without having to re-read phrases and consult my handy-dandy Elizabethan dictionary. In both the first and second novels of this series, things that seemed insignificant in the larger sense of the story often turned out to be huge-whopping significant. So, plan on several exciting events that will have you on the edge of your seat and thinking, "Oi! I never saw THAT coming!" The research the author has put in is stitched fluidly into the story. I don't know if he's been to any of the places his characters will take you but he sure writes like he has and in a short time he'll have you feeling like you're a native to the areas along each leg of the journey. You'll be carried easily from one book into the next and gently but consistently moved to consider how you might react in similar situations if you've not faced such circumstances already. I felt in touch with the characters, not just in the "I" sense, but in the sense of having traveled similar roads and events with my own kith and kin. I believe you'll find much to chew on in these books, in good ways, and that you're likely to come out the other side of them knowing yourself better and and perhaps having gained a deeper sensitivity to the people and places around you. The wrap! Thanks so much for hangin' with me today! I hope you'll please have a look at the Heirs of Ireland series and consider getting not just one but all three. Now's a good time because of the savings opportunity.
I checked while writing this post and Amazon has them on sale for nearly nothing. That's a near steal for any literary adventure fans, young adults and up.
None of these are novellas. They're all full-blown novels and you will seriously get wayyyyy more out of them than you spend on them. That's it for this one! God bless you, thanks for the read and please don't forget to thank a veteran at your next opportunity! femmeflashpoint
