What if they're early? What if you need some time before you can put together a good reply? Or maybe you haven't even decided on the right response?
On a tip and suggestion I tried out a little app called Boomerang a few months ago. I was immediately hooked on it and I've been using it ever since.
The app's name is Boomerang and it's logo is just as cool as its name. So are its features.
Boomerang is a free productivity app that will enhance your email and associated online calendar and is available at baydin.com.
For Gmail, Outlook & more to come...
If you're an Outlook user, you'll be very pleased with Boomerang. If you're a gmail user, you'll maybe be downright ecstatic, whether or not you're part geek.
Currently Outlook and Gmail are the only email providers Boomerang can work with by Baydin is developing it to be compatible with other email and calendar applications as well.
What makes it awesome-sauce?
Using Boomerang is a bit like having a personal assistant built right inside your email and calendar. The icons for it are tiny, so they don't eat up bunches of space on my screen, and the colorful boomerang design is easy to spot among the other symbols so I don't have to hunt to find them.
A click on the Boomerang calendar (which is integrated with my gmail calendar) allows me to open a mini-version right on my email page and gives me a day, week or monthly agenda. This means you don't have to open another page on your browser to access it.
You can add whatever "calendars" you like to it. Many of us working stiffs use multiple calendars all in one program, like birthdays, holidays, meetings, social, full moon (Aahhrooooo!!!!!), sunrise, weather ... whatever, Boomerang will integrate it allowing you to see it from inside your email.
This is a big deal for folks who work frequently from their email and keep it open while they work to field correspondence. If that's you, you'll appreciate the easy click-to-see-and-close option, rather than having to open and close entire page tabs. Boomerang will save you lots of time in page hopping.
Picnic in the park?
Want to plan a Skype-conference? Invite some kith and kin to a picnic in the park? How about rounding up some brave souls to tag along for some late-night Squatching down in the river bottoms>? (CLICK HERE to visit my sister's Squatch It! blog for more info on that sort of thing...)
Boomerang is great at email lingo. It's programmed to understand the way we write. It picks up on things like dates, times, days of the week. When it sees them, it will show them in a variant color. If you click on it, it'll open a popup box with the related email text and allow you to quickly schedule a related event in your calendar and notify those you want to invite.
Totally blonde-friendly. No techno-wizardry needed.
For emails that you're not quite ready to respond to for whatever reason, Boomerang them back to yourself at a date and time of your choosing. The option appears in every email, toward the top, taking up only a tiny bit of space, yet easily noticed. Check to the right of the red arrow for the highlighted area.
The option won't come with the red arrow. That's simply for "show you" purposes, and placed by me via Skitch, an Evernote app that allows me to draw cool images onto other images.
Don't worry ... I'm not covering Skitch for Evernote today. I'll save it for another time.
I hope you've found this helpful, and for a visual, easy to follow and short tutorial about Boomerang, here's a DottoTech video for you.

That's it for this one!

flashPress is a totally free site, but, if you like it and would like to leave a tip, I'll surely put it to good use on things like food, clothes, fuel for my auto, soap to shower with, etc. I think those qualify for seriously good use. ☺
