I've just finished one of the most impressive, confirming and beautifully moving books I have ever read. I admit to being sorry to have reached the last page because I wanted there to be another tale left to tell. Never know. Maybe the writers will do a sequel. I'm sure you've guessed by the title, this book is about horses. It's not just about horses though. It's about people too, who, in sharing their own experiences, enhanced my understanding of why many of us have experienced that incredible feeling of something we can't quite describe, when we're around certain animals, like horses. For those who know what I'm on about, or for those who would like to learn more about it, please get this book! Even though your religious beliefs may differ from those of some of the contributors, there are many wonderful things to learn and experience in this book. There is something to be said for horse-sense. My opinion is that I wish many more of us had it. This book has stories from folks who have horse sense. Some seem to have had it from the get-go, and others developed it later, through necessity, or even a miraculous event involving a horse. The stories in the collection are evocative. They'll make you think, and if they don't ignite a passion in you to embrace the majesty of horses, hopefully, they'll at least cause you to acknowledge and respect them in a way you hadn't before. I remember watching some kids at an Equestrian Center in Texas, interact with horses. It was a fascinating thing to observe, and the first thing I noticed was that every kid in the arena was in a wheel chair. A therapist rolled each child, or young adult, in their wheel-chair, up a ramp. At the end of the ramp, was a horse, waiting patiently, tacked out in a saddle and harness. The therapist locked the chair wheels, and from that point on, the kid was on their own getting out of the chair, across the end of the platform, and into the saddle. Since the kids couldn't walk, they crawled. And, be still my heart, they all made it not only to the edge of the ramp, but into the saddle ... and beyond! Honestly, it was one of the most amazing sights I've ever witnessed. Getting into the saddle was the easy part. From there, the kids had to crawl up the horses neck, touch its ears, and then ease themselves backwards until they were back in the saddle securely. The horse also took them on a ride, and while riding, they had to pick up hoops, suspended in the air, and slide them onto a stick before finishing their ride. Stop here for a moment, and consider what amazing smiles these kids were wearing when they made it back to the ramp, bent over and hugged the horses necks for a good while before they dismounted, without assistance, and crawled back to their wheel chairs? I hope you can imagine them the way I remember them, because they were stunning! That's a short piece of one of my own experiences with the amazing qualities and abilities of equines. This book is full of experiences, many of which are nothing short of the miraculous, about horses linking and bonding with a human, and many of them managing it even after suffering cruelty at the hands of humans with shallow hearts. What parts you disagree with will be small in comparison to the parts that will touch your heart and expand your knowledge.
That's it for this one! God bless you! Thank you for the read and please don't forget to thank a veteran at your next opportunity! femmeflashpoint
